The Bogaty Family Wine Group is proud to celebrate a landmark achievement in our winemaking journey: our head winemaker, Justin Bogaty, has officially reached 100 wines rated 85 points or higher by Wine Enthusiast Magazine. This remarkable milestone not only reflects Justin’s relentless pursuit of quality, but also shines a spotlight on the growing prestige of Virginia wine on the national stage.
A Winemaker with Vision and Precision
Justin’s dedication to crafting expressive, approachable, and high-quality wines has been a cornerstone of our success at Veramar Vineyard, James Charles Winery & Vineyard, and Bogati Winery. Over the years, he has quietly and consistently elevated our wine portfolio—one vintage at a time—culminating in this extraordinary recognition.
The Wines That Mark the Milestone
Three newly rated wines helped push Justin across the century mark, each showcasing the diversity and depth of Virginia terroir and Justin’s nuanced winemaking style:
Veramar 2023 Chardonnay – 88 Points
Virginia
“Golden apple, pear and a tinge of almond evolve into a slightly honeyed element on the palate of this wine. There is an alluring, sensual roundness here. The expression is direct, immediate and visceral. Drink now.”
— Wine Enthusiast, C.G.C.
ABV: 14.1%
This Chardonnay offers a rich yet balanced profile, capturing the elegance and complexity Justin consistently aims for in his whites.
Veramar 2022 Trinity Reserve Red Blend – 88 Points
Shenandoah Valley
“Voluptuous, velvety and vibrant, this wine reveals coffee, ripe cherry and cranberry on the palate. Fresh rhubarb heightens the finish. Tannins are supple and elongated, while the texture is creamy and plush. Drink now or hold for another three to five years.”
— Wine Enthusiast, C.G.C.
ABV: 12.4%
This reserve blend is a celebration of Shenandoah Valley fruit and Justin’s ability to build layered, cellar-worthy wines.
Bogati 2023 Malbec – 87 Points
Virginia
“The palate of this wine denotes elements of herbs, flowers and candied fruit. Candied blackberry and black plum yield to fennel seed, violets and lavender. Although the texture is lean, the tannins are bold and plush. This is an approachable Malbec to myriad palates. Drink now.”
— Wine Enthusiast, C.G.C.
ABV: 13%
Malbec continues to be a standout varietal for Bogati, and this vintage proves once again how well it can thrive in Virginia when handled with skill.
A Testament to Small Team, Big Heart
What makes this milestone even more impressive is that it was achieved by a small, family-run team. While many top-rated wines come from large-scale operations, Justin and his dedicated cellar team have proven that excellence doesn’t require mass production—it requires passion, patience, and precision.
Raising a Glass to the Future
As we raise a toast to this achievement, we also look ahead to the next 100. With every vintage, Justin continues to explore the potential of Virginia wine, pushing boundaries and refining techniques while staying true to the roots of our family legacy.
To Justin, we say congratulations—and thank you. Your talent and tireless work have not only brought honor to our family and our wineries but also contributed to putting Virginia wine on the map in a big way.
