October is Virginia Wine Month, and it’s the perfect time to share the story behind Bogati Bodega & Winery—a tale of inspiration, family roots, and a homecoming to the land.
When Della and Jim Bogaty purchased their farm estate near Berryville in the early 1990s, they were seeking a quieter life in the Shenandoah Valley. With Jim’s extended family in Italy growing grapevines for generations, they planted a few vines of their own—not knowing that this casual project would grow into a full-fledged winery.
By 2000, the Bogaty family opened their first winery, Veramar Vineyard, and their son Justin joined as winemaker shortly thereafter. Driven by a desire to build something sustainable, meaningful, and rooted in family, they set out to craft wines that would stand the test of time.
A Spark in Argentina, a Winery in Virginia
In 2010, inspired by a family trip to Argentina—where the culture, wine, and vitality left a mark—they launched Bogati Winery at Hill High Marketplace in western Loudoun County. The “i” in Bogati is a subtle nod to their Italian heritage and the Latin influence that shaped their approach to winemaking.
A Homecoming to Berryville
After 15 years in Round Hill, Bogati returned home in 2025—moving beside Veramar Vineyard in Berryville (905 Quarry Rd). This move wasn’t just practical; it was personal. It brought the story full circle. The land where the first vines were planted now hosts both Bogati and Veramar side by side.
Old-World Roots. Virginia Potential.
Today, Bogati blends tradition and innovation—honoring Old-World winemaking while embracing Virginia’s promise. Each bottle carries the family’s dedication to craft, the bold spirit of Argentina, and the character of our own terroir.
This Virginia Wine Month, we raise a glass to where it all began—and to the home we returned to, ready for what comes next.
